THE ARROW + THE CYCLE is an immersive exhibition by UVA exploring the nature of time through humankind's respective linear and cyclical models for understanding it. Around the worlddifferent cultures recognise the flow of time either as an irreversible sequence of events – often referred to as'the arrow of time' – or as'cycles' which suggest repetition lawfulness and predictability. In an age in which we understand these ideas to be simplisticthis exhibition explores the metaphors from which they originate. Three experiential installations express concepts of linear and cyclical timeinspired by humankind's perception of realityboth collectively and as individuals.

UVAor United Visual Artistsis an art practice founded in 2003 by British artist Matt Clark. Drawing from sources ranging from ancient philosophy to theoretical sciencethe practice explores the cultural frameworks and natural phenomena that shape our cognitioncreating instruments that manipulate our perception and expose the relativity of our experiences. Rather than material objects UVA's works are better understood as events in time in which the performance of light sound and movement unfolds. The collective has produced a diverse body of work which integrates new technology with traditional media from painting and sculpture to performance and site-specific installation and maintains an open and inclusive approach to collaboration.
